A Walkthrough of Your Sawmill Ridge Home - The Generator

What do I need to know about my generator?

In this video, our QC Supervisor Dan McNulty walks us through the controls for the generator. Dan gives useful tips for how to maintain the quality of the generator and where you can get reliable advice on generator maintenance

Simplified Video Transcript:
To open the generator panel you unscrew the little bolt at the bottom, pull the panel right off and then you can get into the panel.

Anything that's in the generator panel will operate when the generator is running. Anything that is in the house panel will not operate when the house is running on generator panel. Everything is labeled accordingly.

As a routine process, the generators come on automatically around ten o'clock in the morning on Sundays and run for about twelve to fifteen minutes (this does not interrupt house power during tests). If you ever happen to be near the panel when it switches from generator to house (during a power loss) you will hear a bang in the panel. That's the switch transferring over to generator power. When it goes back to house power you may hear that bang again. That's a switch going back to house power.

If you read your Generac manual, It lists the maintenance schedule for the various parts of the generator. Service must be completed by a certified Generac Service Tech. East Coast Lumber has a local equipment shop that provides on-site Generac Service by a certified technician.
